His gaze moves to the pretzels draped over the stall’s edge, thick knots with a salt sheen that catches the light. Street food, yes, but done with pride. He notes the baskets: rolls, sweet buns dusted with something that smells like apple and spice, a pie cooling just enough to be dangerous. No flies. No sour tang. No hidden mold pretending to be rustic.
He straightens, one hand resting on the counter, eyes flicking briefly to the oven. Stone-built, well-used, cared for. This isn’t a front for something rotten, and it isn’t charity bread either.
